Rules

A game lasts until the tiles run out. On your turn you place one tile and may put a figure on it. Whoever has the most points after the final scoring wins.

Your turn

A tile with a city and a road

Vassal
Vassal

Draw a tile and add it to the map so that every edge it touches matches: city to city, road to road, field to field. Once the tile is in a spot, rotate it by tapping it again or with the R key; then confirm with the check mark on the flag.

After that you may put one of your vassals on any feature of the tile you just placed, as long as nobody stands on that feature yet.

Features and points

A straight road

A city with a fountain

  • Road - 1 point per tile. It is complete when both ends stop at a crossing, a city or a cloister.
  • City - 2 points per tile and 2 more per fountain. It is complete when walls close it on every side.
  • Cloister - 9 points once all eight tiles around it are in place.
  • Field - a vassal in a field is a farmer and stays there until the game ends. Fields score only at the end: 3 points for every completed city they touch.

A completed feature scores right away, and its figures go back to their owners. If several players have figures there, whoever has the most takes the points; on a tie, every leader scores.

End of the game

When the tiles run out, unfinished features still pay: 1 point per tile (and per fountain in a city), a cloister gives 1 point plus 1 for each neighbour. Fields are scored last.

Expansion: Fairs & Crafts

Builder
Builder
Pig
Pig
  • Goods. Some cities show wine, grain or cloth. Whoever places the tile that completes a city collects all of its goods, even without a figure in that city. At the end, the player with the most of each good scores 10 points (on a tie, every leader does).
  • Builder. Instead of a vassal you may place the builder on a road or city of the tile you just placed, if one of your vassals is already there. On a later turn, when you extend or finish that feature, you immediately draw and place one more tile, with all the usual actions. You never get more than one extra tile per turn. The builder comes back together with the vassals once the feature is scored.
  • Pig. Instead of a vassal you may put the pig on a field of the tile you just placed, if one of your farmers is already in it. The pig stays until the end. If you score that field, each completed city is worth 4 points instead of 3. The pig does not count towards the majority.
  • Tiles. 24 tiles join the deck: 20 with goods (9 wine, 6 grain, 5 cloth), a cloister with three roads, a bridge and a few more.

Expansion: All or Nothing

Double vassal
Double vassal
  • Inn. A road with at least one inn (by a lake) scores 2 points per tile once completed. If it is still unfinished at the end, it scores nothing. Several inns do not add up.
  • Cathedral. A completed city with a cathedral scores 3 points per tile and per fountain; an unfinished one scores nothing at the end. Two cathedrals do not add up. Cathedrals do not affect fields.
  • Double vassal. Placed instead of a regular vassal, by the same rules. It counts as two when deciding the majority (in fields too) but does not double the points. Your builder or pig can join it.
  • Tiles and players. 18 tiles join the deck, including 6 with inns and 2 with cathedrals. Up to six people can play, the sixth with pink figures.

Expansion: Shadow

Shadow
Shadow

Every player gets a shadow, a second figure. It goes last in your turn, after your regular figure (vassal, builder or pig) or instead of it, onto a free feature of the tile you just placed. It cannot join a feature you claimed this same turn. Otherwise the shadow works like a regular vassal: it counts for the majority, scores and comes back after scoring.
